For the record, how do people feel about your business?

I recently commented the following thought on my friend Gavin’s incredible blog, servantofchaos, and the question has been running through my head since:

Thinking about whatever business you are in, in 2009 how many people will be happy to go on record and vouch for what you do?

If you were to take a video camera to the streets and start interviewing people about your business, would they be itching to get on camera and wax lyrical about what you do? Would they be ready to stake their social reputation on your product or service?

Because if they wouldn’t, perhaps it’s time to re-engineer your business to have talkability at its core, to be word-of-mouth optimised.
