Who do you have a blog crush on?

Over the last five years I have been inspired by many bloggers and by many individual blog posts.

Julian Cole, Gavin Heaton, David Gillespie, Katie Chatfield and a host of other amazing Australian bloggers have inspired me to start this blog and to continue the project of sharing my thoughts and engaging with the rest of the world online. Check my blogroll for more really smart people that float my blogging boat.

But of all the bloggers out there, I keep coming back to Chris Brogan. I love his musings on community, social media and blogging and I love the way he actively engages such a large audience through his blog and through Twitter.

… and right now, I have a blog crush on Chris Brogan. What’s a blog crush? Sizzle Says came up with five telltale signs you have a blog crush, but I’d tweak her list just a little. Here’s the deal: you don’t need to tick all five boxes to have a blog crush. It’s just that the more of the five signs you think you’re exhibiting, the more serious the crush you’re likely to have.

No matter how much I try and deny it, it’s quite possible that my blog crush on Chris Brogan [perhaps a ChrisCrush?] extends to all five of the below:

  1. You can’t wait to read their latest blog post, tweet or Facebook status update. This includes always reading their RSS feed first.
  2. Every new online service you join, you search for their profile first and see if you can become friends with them.
  3. You find them intellectually irresistible and possibly fantasise about cuddling up to their brain for warmth.
  4. You catch yourself thinking “What would [insert name of crush] blog?” when staring at the blank post on your screen.
  5. You dream about one day being the object of their blog crush affections.

And of course, by linking to Chris’ blog, he now knows about my crush. So Chris, if you’re reading this, who do you have a blog crush on at the moment?

And the rest of you, don’t be shy – list your blog crush in the comments and I’ll do a follow-up post that collates them all together. If you want to be kept in the loop about people’s blog crushes, tick the checkbox below the comment box and you’ll get updates when other people comment on the post :-)

So be honest – who do you have a blog crush on?

  • Hey Mitch - thanks for dropping by and commenting. Most of the bloggers on Simon's list are wonderful Australian writers and the social media and strategy/planning community here in Australia are doing some wonderful work.

But I did notice that you sneakily avoided answering the blog post question. So right now Mitch, who do you have a blog crush on? I know I would love to know who would be on your list and I'm sure Simon would really like to see your list too :-)

    Thanks again for dropping by.
  • Thanks for having me on your list Simon. There are some great Blogs here that I have never heard of... I'm going to subscribe now. Thanks for the inspiration.
  • Hey Simon,

Actually they're Vans, but I totally agree, they are nice ;-) Always make me feel much happier when I slip them on.

Cheers for your list mate, and if you like this template, just go check out the release notes about it over at Smashing Magazine.

  • Yes, far too many.
  • I love that Katie remembered youpissedmeoffyoubastard. It is just a shame that he no longer posts. It was gold while it lasted.

I love a long term romance though, an interplay of inspiration, and that lovely leap between having an imaginary friend, and finding a new soul mate

  • Kate - marketing and digital sphere? What do you think this is - some kind of industry blog?!

Thanks for those links - I fight an ongoing battle with myself over spending on clothes. I just bought a couple of pairs of skinny jeans for my skinny legs, and more recently have been looking at my shoe collection and wondering if it doesn't need a little bit of an update:

    <img alt="My ever-growing shoe collection" src="http://scottdrummond.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/shoes_glorious_shoes.jpg">

Yeah, I'm pretty much a sucker for shoes, especially high-tops (mainly the Nike Dunk). I could own twice as many pairs and still crave more, so I just deny myself trips out to shoe stores as much as possible, because I don't need that kind of temptation :)

Sartorialist - voyeurism taken to an aesthetic nth degree.
  • Ok - I see some aren't relating this just to the marketing and digital sphere, therefore I feel obliged to relay some of my fav's (mainly fashion, home and lifestyle):

http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/ - best street chic photographer going
http://www.sfgirlbybay.blogspot.com/ - life crush... I want to live in San Francisco
http://www.copenhagencyclechic.com/ - I live on my bike but not quite as stylishly
http://www.bryanboy.com/bryanboy_le_superstar_fab/ - the home of the 'personal brand pimp'
    http://www.thecobrasnake.com/ - random photos of people partying/subculture
  • I <3 Get Shouty, I want to be Katie Chatfield when I grow up (except, of course, still a man).
  • Gavin - if I am an evergreen does that mean that people pine for me? (Wow - who knew I was becoming my father - dad jokes rule!)

Julian, Kate - cool, thanks for the heads up about Miss Karen's musings. I think I've come across Neil Perkins before, but it's cool to be reminded.

It's interesting to see that two commenters have already said that their crushes don't last very long. Mine on Chris Brogan has only been intensifying as the posts roll by. I agree with Gavin though that I have quite a few bloggers with whom I'm currently enamoured:

Connie Bensen, Kevin Kelly, Faris Yakob, Noah Brier - I love you guys. Thanks for giving up your time and your awesome intellect to make my smile broader and my cortex larger :-)
  • I have a mega-blog-crush on Richard Huntington's Adliterate.

Even though he only posts occasionally, I don't always agree with him and he totally ignores my responses anyway, I LOVE his work.

    http://www.adliterate.com/

    I heart it.
  • Jules me too. She's a dab hand with the makeup brush and the keyboard.

I also have one on Neil Perkin.

But you know, new crushes spring up every week
  • Mine is definitely, Imnotantisocial (http://imnotantisocial.blogspot.com). I don't even like female fashion but somehow I just keep going back and reading her stuff. She updates everyday with some interesting story about her life.
  • I have too many to list, really. But I am fickle ... on the crush list one week, and in the "so over it" list the next ;)
You my friend, are an evergreen.
